I wanted to provide some more information on this event, including a full card listing, but unfortunately KOK haven’t responded to me email request for info.  No matter, let’s just talk about the two big fights on the card, Ben Edwards vs Catalin Morosanu and, in a later post, Steve Moxon vs Yuri Bessmertny.

The main event of the evening is a heavyweight bout between Canberra lad Ben “The Guvner” Edwards (36-8) and Romanian SuperKombat star Catalin “The Carpathian Death” Morosanu (35-6).

Ben Edwards recently fought in the K-1 World Grand Prix 2012 Final 16 in Tokyo last October.  Edwards handily defeated Romanian Raul Catinas to earn a place in the K-1 2012 Final 8, which didn’t end up happening until March this year.  Edwards was to compete in this event, but it was rumoured that he was cast aside so that Badr Hari could compete instead.

Catalin Morosanu also competed in the K-1 Final 16 and unlike Edwards, was invited to enter the Final 8 in March this year.  Morosanu would lose in his opening fight against Pavel Zhuravlev, the SuperKombat World Grand Prix champion 2012.

Edwards is a big heavyweight and will have both reach and size advantages in this fight, coming in at 1.91m (6ft 3in) and 125kg (276lb) to Morosanu at 1.82m (6ft) and 100.7kg (222lb) respectively.

Morosanu’s record has received some criticism as it is perceived that SuperKombat has boosted his popularity by feeding him winnable fights to compliment his brawling style.  Whether this is the case or not, it’s certainly not a criticism that has been leveled at Ben Edwards.

Prediction:  Ben Edwards will be too big, too strong and too good for Catlin Morosanu.  Edwards to win by second round KO.

What do you think?
