Zambidis announced today on facebook that he had pulled out of this Saturday’s K-1 event. The following explanation was given:
Mike Zambidis decided to pull himself out of K-1 World Max 2013 Final 16 of September 14th, due to some term and conditions disagreements with the organization. However, K-1 is still in his future plans, as he is already in discussions for his next contract. Iron Mike wishes good luck to all athletes fighting on Saturday at K-1 at Spain.
Contrast this statement with a K-1 press release from the 21st August, when they announced Zambidis’ participation in the K-1 World Max Final 16 tournament:
After weeks of negotiations, K-1 Global is proud to announce that Greek legend Mike Zambidis and K-1 Global have come to an agreement and that “Iron Mike” will be fighting in the K-1 World MAX 2013 tournament!
So there you go. There was an agreement, but then there was disagreement and Mike Zambidis won’t be fighting for K-1 until a new agreement is agreed upon…
K-1 has brought in Ismat Aghazade from Azerbaijan to replace Zambidis in the Final 16.
